All-electric subsea systems with the Bosch Rexroth eSEA Portfolio

Extreme weather events, such as droughts or flooding, highlight the extent of global warming: Mitigating environmental impacts is the most urgent challenge of our generation. Safe, efficient and scalable subsea systems for new subsea industries, such as Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and offshore Green Hydrogen (H2) production, are elements to reduce the eco-impact of the energy sector. There is a need for scalable solutions to make these industries more affordable.

With the eSEA Portfolio you solve obstacles: The easy-to-use Subsea Electric Actuators operate subsea valves fully electrically, no matter if linear or rotary movements, if low or high loads. Our actuation solutions reduce CAPEX and OPEX for subsea installations by simplification of the design, with field-proven safety and reliable solutions replacing hydraulics and using only low power supply.

In a nutshell: eSEA offers a scalable and cost-effective actuator system for subsea installations in applications as CCUS and Green Hydrogen. All eSEA products are focusing on energy-efficiency, safety and simplified integration.

eSEA Portfolio exhibits showing all products and applications (carbon storage, water treatment, green hydrogen and offshore energy).

We move all types of subsea valves with low power

Compact, energy efficient, intelligent and with field-proven safety: The Bosch Rexroth easy-to-use Subsea Electric Actuators of the eSEA Portfolio cover all applications for subsea systems: Torque, Push and Drive, for all kinds of loads. The lean all-electric technology helps to eliminate the need for hydraulic supply and control lines. It is the perfect solution to simplify and modularize subsea installations for shorter time to market and higher reliability.

One portfolio designed to serve all applications

The eSEA portfolio is ready to be installed in greenfield and brownfield applications for offshore energy, water treatment facilities as well as for new industries such as Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and Green Hydrogen (H2) production offshore, which are seen as an essential contribution to the energy transition.

The eSEA Portfolio

The eSEA Subsea Electric Actuators cover all applications for subsea systems:

  • eSEA Torque for rotary small bore valves,
  • eSEA Push for linear valve actuation and
  • eSEA Drive for large subsea valves.

The actuators are based on industrial components, qualified for use in depth of up to 4,000 meters and designed for permanent subsea use for over 25 years. The field-proven safety technology is using the deenergize-to-trip approach, meeting the safety requirements up to safety integrity level SIL 3. The energy efficiency minimizes effort for electric power generation and transfer throughout the lifetime. Due to standardized interfaces the lean subsea actuators are easy to integrate into greenfield and brownfield applications.

eSEA Torque

The compact, safe and efficient eSEA Torque for rotary small bore valves can replace conventional hydraulic actuators without taking up additional space. This actuator for quarter-turn applications is designed for new and existing installations. One 96 W power supply line is sufficient to enable four eSEA Torque actuators to operate rotary valves. With an input of 48 W, it delivers a torque of up to 270 Nm. Establishing the communication for commissioning and operation via the standard interface takes just a few minutes, proven in real life.

eSEA Push

The eSEA Push product family offers an all-electric, lightweight and compact solution for automation of subsea linear valves. It features a reliable fail-safe mechanism based on the deenergize-to-trip approach, up to safety integrity level SIL 3. The design focuses on cost efficiency by reducing both CAPEX and OPEX and full functionality with a low power of 96W to 480W. With standardized interfaces, the actuators are easy to integrate and simplify retrofit projects. Covering a range of force and stroke options up to 8 inches and 745 kN, eSEA Push is versatile for various applications. The embedded digital twin provides real-time condition monitoring, enhancing system reliability.

eSEA Drive

The eSEA Drive is a groundbreaking solution for the electrification of large subsea valves exceeding 745 kN or 35,000 Nm. It is ideal for high-load applications such as Subsea Safety Isolation Valves (SSIV). The system operates without external hydraulic connections, significantly reducing complexity and cost of the subsea infrastructure. It is particularly well-suited for long step-out distances, ensuring precise actuation with a fast response time. Its robust automotive control unit comprises advanced features like the embedded digital twin minimizing downtime and improving system reliability through enhanced software modules. As all the other actuators, the eSEA Drive contains a simple electrical interface with one single connector for 24 VDC power supply and SIIS L2 communication.
